Weighing in the Presence of Vibration or Industrial Noise

With the growing complexity of process control systems, the challenge is to receive an input signal from an external sensor, such as a load cell, uncorrupted by various process and plant noises. Devices such as agitators, vibratory beds, screw feeders and dynamic transport mechanisms all have ill effects on standard weighing equipment.

To address this problem, leading edge instrument manufacturing companies such as BLH and Hardy have paved the way in taking control of this problem. Today's A-D technologies with unique features such as multi-channel control, take extremely high sample rates to evaluate the signals' sample mean and standard deviation. This information is processed by dynamic digital filters which determine averaging and filter cutoff bands to maximize data stability and response to true weight changes.

It is important to recognize the various differences in weigh indicators and controllers that offer this feature. Call MTI and we will be happy to review your application and make the appropriate recommendations. Key words associated with this technology are: Dynamic Digital Filtering, WAVERSAVER® and RATTLETRAP®. All should be a standard feature when you consider the use of digital weigh instrumentation in a dynamic environment.
